I was just looking at the Waterloo website and thought I would search of Colin. Sad news, yes. I had him as an advisor in 1976 Man-Environment Studies.

In response to 4 above:

"There is a risk that those products will change in ways we don’t like and create issues for us in the future..."

Of course one option with Open Source is that you can fork the product and maintain your own specialist version. Not ideal, but it is an additional option and risk mitigation plan.

I have had similar experience with Singapore having lived there from 1992-2004. I like yur foray into OSS and I agree singapore is not the best place for anything new and entreprenuerial. You can see my profile in Linkedin and we share a mutual friend in Jacob Pillai. Best

Alec,

GOSCON is the Government Open Source Conference - federal and state agencies are the primary audience and the content is geared for them. Most presenters will publish there slides, you can follow the link for Stephen Walli for his, the other may appear on the GOSCON.org site within a few days/weeks.

What is GOSCON? Is there a link I use to get to the presentations you suggested?

Many thanks.

I run a startup open source software company in Portland. We recently moved from Singapore because we could not get the traction we need there. Portland is a delightful surprise and we are so happy to have made the move.

This blog is some background on getting the company up and over here, then my musings on running a startup, or to be more accurate, a global startup with international tax and other overheads.

We are right in the thick of product release, funding exercises and getting acquainted with a new town.

Happy to be here,

Simon.
